Long Tail Keywords | Broad Versus Specific Phrases

The Long Tail Keywords to Gain Targeted Traffic!
For now, keywords or more accurately, long tail keywords, are the focus of successful search engine optimization. These long-tail keywords that don’t get as many searches are the real beauty of search engine optimization.
Long tail keywords are an expansion of a core, generic word to be made into a more specific targeted term. Example: A Generic Broad Keyword – Identity Theft; a more targeted, Long Tail Keywords Phrase – Internet Identity Theft Statistics. What you’ve done is narrowed down the visitors search by giving the specific information you are offering for “Identity Theft”.
If you place these targeted long tail keyword phrases in your article, you’ll receive more targeted traffic from people searching for your specific information. A great place to start your keywords research, would be to use the Google Adwords Keyword Research Tool.
Something to keep in mind while doing your keywords research is that you are not optimizing for the keywords or keyword phrases you like or think should be associated with your product or service… you are optimizing for the long-tail keywords potential visitors associate with the information you are offering.
You should never optimize for a single word; you should optimize for a keyword and the hundreds or thousands of permutations on that word. If you are targeting Bicycles, you can also target Adult Bicycles, Used Bicycles, Cheap Bicycles, Tandem Bicycles, etc.
Closing Comments About Long Tail Keywords Search!
Gaining top ranking for a highly competitive broad keyword is a difficult task when compared to the long-tailed keywords phrase. For this reason, if you are a newly established web site with little authority in the eyes of search engines, you most definitely need to focus your efforts on long-tail keyword search terms.
The long tail keyword phrases work for two reasons:
- You can optimize for many of them at once by focusing on one shorter phrase.
- Searchers that visit your web site from long-tail keyword phrases are generally better targeted and better customers. If folks come to your web site from a long-tail search result and you have what they want, they’re more likely to buy.

Most keyword phrases are highly competitive and difficult to rank for because everyone is using them. Regular keyword phrases have the greatest competition.
Longtail keywords are generally keyword phrases greater than 3 words. Longtail keywords are word phrases that are becoming more prevalent in online internet marketing. Other keyword phrases are over used and longtail keyword phrases offer an alternative at getting more traffic from words that are not used very much globally. Longtail keywords are valuable but not highly competitive which makes them a great resource to use in website meta tags and article writing. There are longtail keyword generators.
