One Crucial, Overlooked SEO Factor to Boost Traffic!

Consistency is an SEO Factor

Consistency is One of Many SEO Factors that Will Reward YOU!

With all the SEO factors I have covered over the life of this blog, I believe there is one very important, many times overlooked factor that is required for SEO in order to be successful… CONSISTENCY.

If you were to ask a person that has some SEO knowledge for his thoughts on the subject of SEO and rankings, he would give you a list stating that you need to optimize your title tag, gain backlinks, write unique content, etc.

This is all well and good, but if you don’t provide consistency with your site, you will gain very little results.

So, Why Should You Blog Regularly and Keep Consistent?

1. Keeping to a Regular Schedule Can Create Loyal Readers.

If a person knows that you will be posting on a certain day or time of the week, they will visit your site with the knowledge that you will have fresh, new content waiting for them. This idea is easy to grasp… when you create a pattern, your readers will adapt to your schedule.

This will give them a reason to keep coming back, so don’t disappoint them by wandering off your schedule.

Clicking on the link will open a separate window, so you can sign up, then close the window to finish reading this post without losing your place.

2. NOT Sticking to YOUR Schedule… Be Prepared to Start Losing Some Traffic.

As the paragraphs above state the fact about your loyal readers revisiting your blog, it’s just the opposite if you aren’t consistent. Since your loyal readers are expecting to read something new, if you don’t stick to your routine, your loyal readers will get frustrated and leave.

They won’t be able to keep track of when you are posting next because you have strayed from your schedule, so the chances are they may stop visiting all together.

3. Regularly Updated Content Can Equal More Visits and Higher Search Engine Rankings.

Search engines love unique, fresh content. Each time the search engine robot visits your blog, it will scan for new content. If it finds new or modified/edited content, it will index it.

I wrote an article about my Alexa Ranking gaining traffic authority… in that article, I spoke about publishing consistently. I truly believe consistency works and here’s why in the form of a question… is it a search engine coincidence that when I published last weeks article which was Wednesday, May 2nd that I had an Internet searcher that was sent to my page from a search result the same day?

If I were to guess why my post was indexed to be found by a searcher the same day, I would say that this site was crawled for new materials on the same day that I published the article, because the search engine was expecting to see it there.

Think about it like this… the more consistently you publish new content, not only will the search engines raise an eyebrow and pay attention to your site more, but this will also widen the scope of topics covered on your site, which in turn can make the search engines see your site as an authority with higher rankings to follow… whew, long sentence, but you get my point!

Of course my comments above are based around the many additional SEO Factors involved in the algorithm that judges your content, but I will say this… as long as you have fresh, quality content that the search engines are seeking to match their searchers queries, the greater chances for more traffic that you will receive to your site.

4. Regular and Consistent Updates Can Equal MORE Backlinks.

If you’ve been around SEO for a while then you know that backlinks are like a vote for your site. Many people reading your posts are bloggers, so when you frequently and consistently update your blog, your loyal readers will eventually like one of your articles enough to link back to it.

Example: The readers have spoken… apparently bloggers have been linking to the article that I previously mentioned about getting my Alexa Traffic Ranking below the 100,000 mark in under 3 months (as a new site to boot), which raised my Google PageRank to a 2… this PageRank of 2 was earned within 3 weeks of posting the article… who doesn’t deserve a pat on the back for that?

There’s another article that received a PageRank of 2 in little time which was ‘10 Link Building Tips – How to Get Authority Backlinks!’… this article was published March 6th, not too far behind the Alexa Ranking article.

There has to be a pattern here with being consistent… anybody else agree?

This site SEOBlogOptimizer.com is gaining search engine authority very quickly… for those that don’t know, this site was a rebrand that took place on January 8th of this year 2012, so there are some articles on here from another blog, but starting a newly branded site with a brand new, never used domain name does take time for the search engines to pay attention.

Closing Comments About Consistently Published Articles

There are many advantages to consistently publishing new content on your site… how does more leads, which can equal more sales, which can equal more money sound?

The more you are consistent, the more the search engines will pay attention to your site, which can label you as an authority in your niche by the search engines.

This in turn gives you more power with the people classifying you as the professional in your field to the searchers. This can also lead the people to believe anything you tell them… you can tell your followers that eating Lima Beans cures colon cancer and they will believe you, just make sure it’s a fact.

How often do you publish fresh content… are you able to stick to a consistent schedule… comment below?

  3. I wish writing came easier to me – I have tried with my blog. In your opinion is it better to have your own self hosted blog or is it ok to have the free option.
I also have the option of having my blog on my current website but would that hurt SEO if I used that and the wordpress free site I have

    • John Engle says:

      Hi NIcola,

There are many opinions floating around out there about having your own self hosted blog, one of them is that you have complete control over everything you want to do with it.

Some of the downfalls for a Free site is that you are under their rules, which many times means if you disobey their rules they can remove your site, you cannot add plugins, etc. Also, if you want anything additional added to your site it will cost you money.

For your other question… I truly don’t believe having your blog hosted free is going to hurt your SEO… my opinion is that if having a Free hosted site hurt your chances of being found in the search engine results page’s, the word would get around and people would stop using this free platform, which in turn will lose them money.

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

  4. Deepak Gupta says:

    Hi,

Writing will become easier for all, if they hire freelance content writers :) http://www.versatilecontents.com

    • John Engle says:

      Hey Deepak,

I believe that there are Pros and Cons for hiring a freelance writer.

Writing would be easier for many if they outsourced, but my opinion is that if you have a blog that is supposed to be your vision for whatever topic you choose, your followers would want to read your information from your own voice.

Here is what I tell my clients, that use my On Page Optimizing services, that leave out a ‘Title’, ‘Description’, or any other crucial element in their article and the person asks me “Can You Just Add It for Me?”. I tell the person, “I will do it this time, but I would rather the wording be Authentic YOU, in your OWN Voice”.

I try not to get into the habit of creating author’s wording on their behalf, because their loyal readers will see right through that and realize it’s not them saying those words.

I can see hiring a professional writer for lets say a shopping type of site, the professional writer can make the words flow and appear more professional than the average writer, possibly boosting sales.

Would you like to add anything?

Thank You for stopping by and taking the time to comment.
